For many reasons people often do not plan sufficiently for life’s certainties – diminished capabilities and mortality. To ensure that all of your objectives are met, planning ahead is critical. Why? Because PEOPLE MATTER!

Plan so all of your financial affairs are managed in an integrated manner for you and your dependents…to ensure your wealth is transitioned to those you want…to minimize the taxes and fees…to maintain family harmony.

TIME

Settling an estate is time-consuming. With new provincial estate regulations in several jurisdictions a typical estate settlement will likely take much longer than in the past and is estimated to last up to 4 years. A power of attorney may be required to manage your finances for far longer, if you are no longer able to or wish to. Does the person or people you initially thought of have the time to dedicate to this role while attending to his or her own lifestyle, health and family responsibilities? Why consider an independent third party? Because PEOPLE MATTER!

SKILLS

Administering an estate can be a complicated process. Depending on the size of the estate, it may involve over 40 different steps – including applying for probate, completing an inventory of the estate assets, preparing notices to creditors, reviewing financial statements, preparing personal and estate tax returns and distributing the estate to each of the beneficiaries. Does the person you have selected have the skills needed for this role? In estate settlement – PEOPLE MATTER!

EXPERIENCE

While it may be considered an honour to name a loved one as an executor or power of attorney, most people have never played those roles before. Making decisions that affect the estate and the beneficiaries are often challenging, and sadly can be the root of family disharmony. Most people don’t really want to place a family member or close friend in such a position, because PEOPLE MATTER!
